What I Thought I Wrote ("Translation")
At the Station
by Kraai Meg
Japan's trains are really amazing. However, the first time I came to Japan, I thought differently. I thought they were really complicated and difficult. At that time, I couldn't speak Japanese very well. I would hear the announcements at the station but couldn't understand them. I couldn't read any of the Japanese characters at the station, either. When I wanted to go somewhere, I spent a long time looking at the train station's map. It took me a long time to figure out where I was, where I wanted to go, and how much it would cost. After that, I could finally buy my ticket. The first time I went to ride a train, even though I put the ticket in, the doors of the ticket wicket closed on me! I was really in trouble.
Now, however, I have gotten used to riding the trains in Japan. I pay the train fare with my SUICA card. I can go anywhere. If I get into trouble, I can ask the station workers for help. Riding trains is fast, convenient, and fun.
My son LOVES trains. Every day he tells us he wants to ride a train. Sometimes we ride trains just for fun. We take the Chuo and Soubu train lines. My son doesn't speak too much Japanese but he can say the names of the train stations and the trains. His favorite train station is Kichijoji, and his favorite train is the Narita Express. Also, if he sees a picture of a bullet train, he can tell you where it goes. Unfortunately, he has forgotten how to ride in a car. If we return to America, I will be in trouble once again.
